چکیده

found a strain of Sphingomonas sp. that produced a novel pentapeptide exhibiting high algaecidal activity against Microcystis spp. This communication describes the isolation and the structural elucidation of the active compound, argimicin A (1). The producer was isolated from a water sample containing colonies of Microcystis sp. collected at Lake Biwa, and was classified into Sphingomonas sp. by taxonomic studies and 16S rDNA analysis. The

Action mechanism of a selective anti-cyanobacterial compound, argimicin A.

Argimicin A is a potent anti-cyanobacterial compound produced by one of algae-lysing bacteria, Sphingomonas sp. M-17. Since the compound seemed to exhibit selective activities against cyanobacteria and such selectivity were considered to be quite rare, the mode of action of argimicin A was investigated. Argimicin A showed a unique delayed action, i.e., the cyanobacterial cell division continued...

An efficient screening approach for anti-Microcystis compounds based on knowledge of aquatic microbial ecosystem.

To improve the efficiency of screening for anti-Microcystis compounds, we planned to use algae-lysing bacteria that kill the organisms of water blooms. A two step-screening process was carried out, i.e., the screening of algae-lysing bacteria and the selection of anti-Microcystis producers from the bacteria. Sources for the isolation of the bacteria were a co-cultivated fluid of a water sample ...

Isolation and characterization of an algicidal bacterium indigenous to lake Taihu with a red pigment able to lyse microcystis aeruginosa.

OBJECTIVE To isolate and characterize indigenous algicidal bacteria and their algae-lysing compounds active against Microcystis aeruginosa, strains TH1, TH2, and FACHB 905. METHODS The bacteria were identified using the Biolog automated microbial identification system and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The algae-lysing compounds were isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography and ...

Spirulina; the food for future

Spirulina is a cyanobacterial photosynthesis that is grown commercially in many tropical and subtropical countries and temperate regions for human and animal nutrition. This commercial product is used as a rich source of protein and vitamins in the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries due to its valuable nutrients. In the last two decades, the production of microalgae for food has incre...

Cyanobacterial Toxins Impact Crops

Oregon surface waters are experiencing increased occurrence of potentially toxic cyanobacterial blooms (Fig. 1). It is necessary to use the modifier “potentially” because there is no toxin monitoring in the state of Oregon. Advisories are currently based on cell counts of potentially harmful cyanobacteria. This summary is intended to briefly review the recent research on the effects of a cyanob...
